Cross Hill Geo Domes

Lake Hawea, New Zealand$$

Cross Hill Geo Domes is a premium glamping stay in Lake Hāwea, around 15 minutes from Wānaka. Set within the grounds of The Camp, the six geodesic domes sit in their own dedicated area, with access to Cross Hill Lodge and the wider lake-edge setting. Each dome includes its own ensuite, kitchenette and large private deck, creating a stay that feels private, contained and quietly removed.

The domes are designed to keep the landscape close. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the surrounding trees and high-country light, while the circular interiors create a sense of shelter without feeling closed in. Inside, the experience is warm and self-contained, with timber finishes, soft bedding, a fireplace and enough space to slow the pace of the day.

Cross Hill Lodge gives the stay its hosted rhythm. Guests can move between the privacy of their dome and the shared warmth of the Lodge, where dining, lounge spaces and a massage room add another layer to the experience. Breakfast and dinner are available, with the stay shaped less like a hotel and more like a gentle high-country retreat.

The defining wellness layer is The Secret Sauna, located on-site at The Camp on the shores of Lake Hāwea. The wood-fired barrel sauna can be booked as a private or shared session, with the lake available for cold immersion between rounds of heat. It is simple, elemental and deeply aligned with the setting: sauna, water, mountain air and time.

For travellers wanting a fuller reset, Cross Hill offers packages that bring together dome accommodation with wellness experiences such as The Secret Sauna and the wood-fired hot tub. The experience remains unforced: heat when you want it, stillness when you need it, and the option to shape the stay around rest rather than itinerary.

Food is part of the softness here. The Lodge provides a place to gather, eat slowly and let the day come down. It is not a self-contained escape in the purely functional sense; it is more hosted than that. The value is in having privacy without being left entirely to your own devices.

This is a strong Verisa stay for travellers who want comfort, nature and recovery without the polish of a large resort. Its wellness value comes through privacy, warm interiors, lake-edge air, sauna heat, cold water, restorative sleep and the sense of being held by the landscape without needing to disappear from the world completely.

What we love

Cross Hill Geo Domes makes stillness feel generous. Each dome is private, cocooning and quietly architectural, with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the Lake Hāwea landscape into the room. The experience is less about doing more and more about settling in: waking with the light, returning to the deck, sharing seasonal food at the Lodge, and letting the surrounding mountains set the pace.
